Clean A Beach On International Surfing Day

Clean A Beach On International Surfing Day

This is as legitimate a reason as you’ll ever get to take off to the beach and catch some waves – it’s International Surfing Day! Created by SURFING Magazine, this unofficial, official surfers’ holiday gives us a chance to promote and celebrate the sport while bringing awareness to the state of our oceans and beaches.

The goal is simple: take the day, or at least a part of the day, to go out, catch a wave or three and — while you’re at it — help clean up your favorite beach. Surfrider Foundation has organized a handful of official beach cleanups, but that doesn’t stop you from beautifying your own stretch of sand. More info is available here.

PLUS, if you join or renew your Surfrider Foundation membership on International Surfing Day, June 20th, 2009, and SURFING Magazine will print your name in its upcoming Green Issue! That way, not only can you brag to your friends that you finally got in SURFING Magazine, you can also show them that you’re down with keeping our oceans, waves and beaches clean and healthy. In addition to getting your name in the mag and receiving a year’s membership to the Surfrider Foundation, they’ll also throw in a special limited edition International Surfing Day t-shirt. We know not everyone is as fortunate to be able to live by the ocean, but you can still help save our beaches by supporting Surfrider Foundation on SocialVibe.
